Does heavier Mean More Moisturising?

Does heavier Mean More Moisturising?

Why “Heavier = More Moisturising” Is One of Skincare’s Most Persistent Myths

A common customer belief:
If it feels thick, rich, or slightly sticky — it must be working.

From a formulation perspective, that’s often misleading.

• Sensory is engineered, not proof of efficacy
Weight and drag are often built into formulations to feel nourishing — not necessarily to improve skin function.

• Occlusion isn’t the same as nourishment
Heavier products tend to sit on the surface, reducing water loss, but offering limited biological benefit.

• Stickiness is not hydration
Tackiness is frequently just residue — not a marker of effective moisturisation.

A different approach:

The systems I formulate prioritise:

  • Fast absorption
  • Skin-compatible lipid profiles
  • High levels of functional plant actives
  • Minimal surface residue

Using cold-pressed plant oils rich in essential fatty acids, phytosterols, and antioxidants, these formulations integrate with the skin — rather than coating it.

The shift we need:

  • Light ≠ weak
  • Fast-absorbing ≠ ineffective
  • Non-greasy ≠ non-moisturising

In reality, well-formulated lightweight products are often more biologically effective.

The future of skincare isn’t about how a product feels on the surface —
but how it performs within the skin.
