There's vegan, and then there's vegan skincare

We are proud that, among other qualities, we can say that our skincare range is truly vegan.

Many other skincare brands claim just that, but you need to be careful when selecting your skincare choices, because vegan doesn't necessarily mean 100% natural and plant based.

The Oxford Dictionary definition of vegan is:

" A person who does not eat or use any animal products"

Some vegans extend this broad terminology beyond diet to include dairy, honey, leather, wool, and the use of any product that has been tested on animals (cruelty free).

The claim that a skincare brand is vegan, doesn't guarantee any of the following properties:

~ It doesn't mean the products are plant based

~ It doesn't mean there are no synthetic or petroleum derived ingredients

~ It doesn't mean there are no nasty additives

~ It doesn't mean the products are sustainable, ethical, and eco-conscious

So it is vital to not allow yourself to be greenwashed by the terminology. Vegan is a positive step, primarily for it being cruelty free and no animal has been harmed in its development or production (or the production of any of the composite ingredients), but it does not signify purity, naturalness, plant derivation, ethics, sustainability, or eco-consciousness.

We see it as only one string to our bow. We ensure our products are truly vegan, but we also only use 100% natural plant derived ingredients, we check the provenance of those ingredients, ensure their quality, sustainability, ethical standards, and kindness to the environment. We also use organically grown oils and actives wherever possible, and finally we use hand drawn locally sourced fresh spring water in our formulations.

Please also bear in mind that "organic" and "natural" have no legal definitions when used in skincare terminology, which is something for a later blog.

Rest assured that natrl skincare is the cleanest, most natural plant based skincare available.....bar none.
